Overlockers can seem daunting, but once you get the hang of them you will wonder how you ever managed without one!

Whether you have your own and are looking to gain confidence, or are thinking about getting one, this beginners’ overlocker class has you covered.

I have three overlockers available to borrow for the class so if you need to use a studio machine make sure you select that option when booking. Alternatively, if you have your own overlocker it is a great chance to learn with your very own machine. 

What will we cover?

  • Exactly what is an overlocker and what does it do.

  • Supplies and essential tools.

  • How to thread your overlocker from scratch.

  • How to change just one thread.

  • Selecting and changing needles.

  • Sewing seams on knits and finishing edges on wovens.

  • Starting, finishing and securing stitches.

  • Curves, corners and sewing in the round (sleeves, cuffs)

  • Time saving tips.

  • Thread tension - understanding, balancing and troubleshooting.

  • Understanding and changing your machines settings - stitch length, cutting width, disengaging knife, 3 or 4 thread stitch, differential feed and more.

  • Troubleshooting

What is included?

  • Use of a studio overlocker (if booked) 

  • Selection of fabrics for practice and samples of different techniques  

  • Worksheets with tips, tricks and troubleshooting  

  • Tea, coffee, herbals and sweet treats 

  • 10% off anything purchased in class  

What do you need to bring?

  • Your overlocker (if bringing your own) complete with power cable. 

  • Your overlocker tools/ kit- such as screw driver, attachments and needle nose pliers (if you have them)
