Hi! I’m Rachel

Welcome to Hackley Design Studio!

I am a self taught designer, maker, sewist, knitter, you name it.  I have been sewing and making my whole life.  Around 7 years ago I chose to pursue my love of creating full time, and Hackley was born.  Initially my focus was on creating a range of bags, accessories and homewares.  I spent several years pushing my skills to design from scratch, honing my sewing and really trying to find my feet in my new creative space.  Whilst I really did love what I was doing, there was always a tiny niggle that something was missing.  I had no idea what that was until I met Ros and Ellie of Repair What You Wear a couple of years ago.  They opened me up to a new approach to my practice and led me to discover what I am truly passionate about - and that is teaching and sharing everything I know about sewing, creating, and the incredible fullfillment that can be found when we create something with our hands.  Bringing people together in a safe, welcoming space to connect and learn new skills is now the focus of Hackley Design Studio.  I in addition to the range of classes I offer at my Deemouth Studio, I also teach classes at the amazing Lend and Mend Hub at Aberdeen Central Library.
